The jap promo paper II was a killer for me. Didn't know how to do most of the questions of the main section. Only studied for less than 1 hr after the math paper and you can guess how much went in, after 3 whole hours of doing maths. Haha. But I found the essay question quite interesting. The one I did at least, it was one of the rare times I had more than enough points to fill my paper xD The question was "If we could talk to animals."
What if we could talk to animals? I used to wish very fervently when I was young that I could talk to animals. I wished for the superpower to be able to communicate with animals. But I realised that if one day, humans could really talk to animals, or animals could speak human, it would be a revolution for the world. It wouldn't be an airy fairy affair like in fairytales or children's cartoons where humans and animals live happily together because they can talk to each other, and you get the cute animals dressed sweetly in human clothes. All pet lovers will probably love to be able to talk to their pets. It will then be a two way conversation if their beloved pets could really reply their conversation. Human owners will then be able to understand the feelings and emotions of their pets. But have you ever wondered, what your pets would tell you if they could speak? What if they tell you: " I don't want to be a pet. I want to be free, please give me freedom and let me go. " At that moment, you as the owner, would have to let you pet go if you really love your pet wouldn't you. Not just pets, but all animals in captivity. Would there be any animal that would allow themselves to be kept in captivity? If animals could talk, would they express that they accept humans as a superior to them?
If you could understand animal talk, would you still dare to eat meat? Would animals still let themselves be domesticated to be killed if they understood that they are being fed well only so that they can be killed to be served on the dinner table? Would humans still be able to kill animals for food? A common language of communication represents a common identity, and creates a sense of belonging that we belong to the same community and are fellow beings.Would the predator still be able to kill the prey if it could understand what it was saying? Would it be considered cannibalism and killing your own kind then? I think there was a reason why the higher powers created this world such that there was no inter-species communication. Because if different species could communicate, definitions would have to change completely. Would animals be the same as humans then? Would you have animal traders and business-animals? Hmm. Well, haha, I got philosophical halfway through the essay but couldn't express myself properly xD
